How do I select the right bottom bracket?

When shopping for a new bottom bracket, you will potentially need four bits of information:
1. The make and model of the crank you will be using.
2. The width in millimeters of your bike frames bottom bracket shell. The BB shell is the part of the frame that the BB threads into. For most bikes it will be 68 mm, 70 mm or 73 mm.
3. The threading of the bottom bracket shell or if it is unthreaded the inside diameter of the opening in millimeters.
4. For older cranks you will also need the spindle length and the spindle’s end shape. The most common ends are square taper, a round end w 8 ridges (Shimano’s proprietary Octalink®) or a round end with 10 raised ridges (ISIS).
